Every single blog on the interweb is doing this “Goals for 2008” post, right?  Well, I have few goals for this blog, but I am not going to add them to the long list of crap I have to remember to do on a normal basis.  So, I thought I would make a quick post about some basic blog tips that I use and everyone should remember when blogging in 2008.

First.
Don’t forget to post.  You have to keep your blog fresh and lean at the same time.  People want information, a quick laugh, gossip and more.  Stick to it, but make sure you can post once a day.  If you have email subscribers, this is even more important, because they read their emails, you should have one there for them to read.

Second.
If you blog has a specific niche, like mine does, make sure that you are ahead of the game in research for that niche.  Look ahead, keep your eyes and ears open to all that is specific to your niche.  It really sucks when you are out of things to post about and some handy dandy piece of blog gold has passed you by because you weren’t paying any attention.

Third.
Read other blogs.  Many bloggers are the same type of person.  If you find a blog that you like, don’t be afraid to subscribe to his/her blog and read the updated posts.  I know it will boost their feed count, but it’s probably fake anyways.  Don’t be afraid to network and subscribing to blogs that you find interesting or informative is a must.

Fourth.
Keep your layout clean and fresh.  Maybe even think about getting a new layout.  There are so many places that will makeover your blog it isn’t even funny.  You can check out JohnCow.com’s newest creation if you like.  It seems to be quite popular, or you can have a design service make one up from scratch for you.  Your blog should be unique in your own way and if you can afford to buy a custom layout, I say go for it!

There you have it folks, 4 easy to remember tips for your blog in 2008.  These are just a couple of basics that I follow and I think that anyone that is into blogging, even as a hobby, should follow.  If you are going to be a part of the blogging community, then be a part 100% of the time.  I hope these tips are only the beginning of a great 2008 for everyone!
