My Home Theater Project
Some of you may know that I love movies and that about one year ago I started a home theater project in my basement. All kidding aside, it wasn’t going to be a major remodel because I own a duplex and really, don’t intend on being here that long. So, I didn’t want to convert my entire basement into a theater.
With that said, I did want to create some sort of atmosphere for the home theater. I have a couple of couches, papasan chair and reclining leather love-seat. That is plenty of seating for anyone that wishes to watch movies at my home.
The other thing that I had to work one was mounting my new Dell projector from the ceiling so that it would be out of the way and connecting the cables would be easier in my case. After much reading at www.projectorcentral.com, I finally had the screen size and projector from screen distance figured out.
Now I needed a screen at 104 inches! I painted my walls in the basement with semi-gloss white for easy cleaning. This is bad for my projector because it will reflect any and all light that hits them. So, I had to work on an idea for a screen. I wasn’t going to shell out for a screen that would cover my wall, especially when I knew I could make one.
With a piece of flat white plastic I got from a local company, I decided to paint it FLAT white with a black border. The total whitespace was 104 inches diagonal, perfect!
I have enjoyed many movies in my own home theater, but plan to make it a little more cozy by building an actual room (that can be converted later) for the theater and installing carpet, as well. With my projector and surround system in place, I can’t wait for movie night at the Sukosaki homefront!
We’ll see how that all goes considering I never can make up my mind about things like this and some of the time my projects get put into the “just good enough for now” folder. There are the two items that I have in my current home theater setup.
