Think Things Through

road-sign-roundabout.jpgWhy do you think that your last idea failed?  Was it because you didn’t have enough money to make it work?  Or maybe it was because you weren’t putting 110% of your brain power to just that idea.  It also could have been because you didn’t have a road map as to where your idea was going in the first place.

All of these things happen to people, even bloggers.  When you have an idea that you think is the “next big thing”, write that idea down and make sure that you concentrate on that idea alone.  I have a lot of ideas floating around in my head all the time.  Do I write them all down?  You bet that I do.  I have had too many ideas that I would have taken action on in the past, just slip my mind.

You have to make at least a small reminder note to jog your memory in the future.  The one thing that I always do with a new idea, or even blog post, is write it down and step away for a day or so.  I keep this idea in the back of my mind all day.  Thinking about the outcome desired or the money it will cost or even the fame it might get me.  Either way, before I even sit back down with that idea, I feel like I already have a rough draft in my head.

My point is that if you are trying to come up with the “next big thing“, make sure you have a road map from A to Z.  When you don’t have this “road map” plan in tact, you can be sure that getting your idea off the ground will prove to be quite difficult.

Keep these things in mind when thinking of a new project or any new business idea for that matter.
1.  Cost
2.  Outcome desired
3.  Has it been done already
4.  Is it possible with the resources you have

If you can keep these 4 things in mind all the time, you should be on the right track.  The main thing is that you keep on heading towards the outcome you have in mind.  If you lose the trail, make sure you get back to the trail before going any further.

Ok, let’s summarize.  You have a great idea.  You get it down on paper so that it will NOT slip your mind.  Take a breather from it, but keep it in the back of your mind.  Think things through.  Sit back down with your idea and draw out the “road map” from A to Z.  Once you feel that you have done those things, it’s get to work time.  Maybe run your idea past a couple of trust worthy friends or family members, as well, sometimes they can see things that you didn’t.  They might even be able to help make suggestions that will improve on the idea right out of the box.

Now, go!  Get those ideas written down and run with them.  Don’t be afraid and always think things through.
