Hope for Breakfast? I Guess..

I am not really sure what to think about the quote Hope is good for breakfast, but not necessarily for supper”. I guess if I had to come up with a meaning, in my opinion, it would be something like this; Hope is good at the start, but it doesn’t really mean only HOPE will help in the long run?.
