Kettering University – Co-op Program That Works

Today’s off topic post is about a university that I think has a real good idea. The engineering co-op programs that they offer actually allows you to rotate between school and your job every couple of months or so.  I really think that is an excellent idea for a industrial engineering university to offer it’s students.

What could be the downfall?  You are educated, sent into the workforce, then brought back to be further educated.  For a mechanical stand point, I think the program would work wonders for these types of students.  Not to mention that Kettering University was named “the #1 University in the nation for Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering” by America’s Best Colleges Guide for 2008.

Having a college that allows student that option to get into the workplace faster will give them a larger advantage in the real world.  Students typically have jobs lined up for them during their freshman year.  From there the students will be on rotation about every 3 months, between work and school.

The website currently has video interviews with students about the co-op program and more.  And of course, you have to check out the adventures of Stickman, seemingly the schools mascot.

After watching a couple of videos and reading through the website, I really think that Kettering University has something here.
