Profootball Pickem thru Week 5 – Not Looking Good

yahoo-pro-football-pickem

If you haven’t been following the last couple weeks, you can check out previous posts about ProFootball Pickem, [here] & [here].  I wanted to do another update post about where I am up to week 5.

Against the Spread

Of course, against the spread is not easy to do.  You get games like Seattle vs. Jacksonville with NO LINE and Seattle wins by only 41 points!  Well, for the last couple of weeks I have been choosing 4-5 underdogs just to keep it real with the spread.

It has been pretty good for me for the last 2 weeks, giving me a score of 10 out of 14 (picked 3 underdogs) and 7 out of 14 (picked 5 underdogs), respectively.  With those stats, it would appear that picking underdogs is a good idea, just don’t pick too many per week.

I am going to stick to about 3-4 underdogs, especially home teams, for the next couple weeks and see how that all turns out.

Where I Rank

At this point, I am sitting, tied with 3 others, at 11 out of the 18 players in the group.  With a total score of 39-37, at least I am above the .500 mark through 5 weeks.  I really never expect to hit the top 3 overall, because we have those that research football throughout the week, more than I, but I am hoping I can stay above .500 for the year.

Coming Up

Now that we have a good idea of where the football teams are sitting, a couple still undefeated, theh picks should start to get a little easier.  I will post my picks for this week on Saturday, if you are interested, maybe they will help you out.

Where are you in your Profootball Pickem Group?

ProFootball Results for Weeks 1 & 2

Well, judging by my picks in week 2, apparently I don’t know squat about picking against the spread, lol.  But that is what makes picking against the spread so fun.  One week Payton Manning lights things up and can cover a 10 point spread, but the next week he can barely get his team to cover 3 points!  My results for week 2 are posted below.

As you can see, I didn’t do very well.  There are 18 people in my league and the top guy picked 11 right this week.  Here are my results from week 1.

For week one, the top guy picked an amazing 14 correct against the spread.  That is just nuts for the first week of football!  Right now, I am sitting in 13th place with a record of 14-18.  Let’s hope I can get that to change a little as the season goes on.

Yahoo Pro Football Pickem Picks, Pools and More

This year is the 5th that I will be attempting to win a Yahoo Pro Football Pickem pool that people I know have set up.  Basically, all that I have to do is pick winners each week, against the spread.  Yeah, I know that it sounds so easy, but let me tell you about being a Packer fan….

This year, I thought that I would post my picks and see what others think of them.  I am also going to keep a log of how well (or not) I do throughout the season.  This way, if you are having issues coming up with a team to pick each week, you can bookmark this blog and check back to see who I chose as winners.

I am going to pick my top 5 winners each and every week.  I am also going to keep track of my record vs. the spread.  I would like to encourage you to return every week to see how I do this season.  If you want you can leave comments as to how you did or if you used my picks to win in your pro football league.

Michael Vick to the Eagles With One Year Contract

As sad as it sounds to some people, I was really hoping that NOBODY would sign Michael Vick this year.  I know the talent and all that crap, but come on, let’s make a point with this guy.  Brutalizing animals in the way that he did, he should still be in prison.  Not to mention that I am sure he was betting on the dog fights, which, in my opinion, puts him in the same boat as Pete Rose.

Gambling on anything “sport” related should be taken very seriously and regardless of what any football team “needs” right now, I still think Vick was better off learning a lesson and not playing NFL football at all.

I love my dog and 3 cats and I just cannot fathom what is going through a person’s mind when they let two dogs go in a cage until one isn’t moving anymore.  What type of person must that be to not feel like what they are doing is NOT right?

I guess we’ll see what happens, in the meantime, I really hopes that he messes up and at the same time teaches the NFL that he was never really gonna change to begin with.  At least he will not be  in the starting quartback role, this year.
