Do you type a domain name into a search engine to go to that website? Why wouldn’t you use the address bar for that?

There are so many people that will go to www.google.com, or have it set as their homepage, type in ebay.com and press enter, to GO TO EBAY.COM. Isn’t that strange? Maybe it’s just me, but I really thought the internet was much easier to use than that.

The reason that I make all the fuss is simple. A LOT of traffic to this blog is from search engines and believe it or not, this blog is found by keywords like “subwayfreshbuzz.com enter codes” and “pepsirockband.com”.

Now, I have optimized this blog to gain such traffic, but it wasn’t intended to get traffic via DOMAIN NAMES as keywords. Why are people using Google to find subwayfreshbuzz.com, when they actually just typed in the domain name itself? What happens is that my blog is ranking for these domain names because I put up a “review post” for the promotion or contest.

When users want to go to the promo site to enter codes or check out the prizes, they type the domain name into Google search and hit enter. Guess what? Now, this blog is listed FIRST, above the actual subwayfreshbuzz website. Isn’t that a bit strange? I rank higher for keywords that mean nothing to this site, than the site that is actually called SubWayFreshBuzz.com. Here is a screen shot to prove it!

Well, in the meantime, I just wanted to let all the users that do NOT know to search for a website, that they can easily get to any webpage they see listed on the web, TV or hear on the radio, simply by using the address bar available on most browsers today.

Don’t forget that you can use Twitter for other things that just telling everyone you are in line at the local Subway.

Twitter has become some sort of monster in the recent year, but some people don’t realize that Twitter has a nice search function. Going to search.twitter.com, you can find out what others are talking about, get an answer to your WordPress theme question or even find blogging jobs.

It’s really that easy. You are just searching for key terms just like any other search engine. You can use the #hash tag if you want, but you do not have to. I use the search all the time to find writing jobs for bloggers that do not have enough time to keep up with projects. The pay is reasonable, usually, but I see the market getting more flooded by the day.

You can also see the top trending keywords “tweeted” about throughout the day. Twitter can really be a nice resource if you use it correctly. Give the search a try and don’t forget to follow me @sukosaki to keep track of my bathroom breaks
