Are You Right Brain(ed) or Left Brain(ed)?
Have you ever wondered whether the right or left part of your brain is doing most of the thinking? Well, of course, some people might think that you are not thinking at all, but we know that is not always true. The truth is that different sides of your brain controls different thoughts and actions. If you didn’t know this, the rest of this post could be quite interesting to you. If you did know this, then just skip to the picture and see what side of your brain you are using most.
I found this neat little experiment online about 1 week ago and it blew my mind. This simple animated .gif file tells you exactly what side of your brain is doing the thinking at an exact moment. I attached the picture to this post, you can see it below. The girl spinning (sorry it’s a nude shadow, I didn’t create it) will appear to be spinning clockwise or counter-clockwise when you look at it.
Believe it or not, it might appear to go both directions (not at one time), if you can control how your brain sees the image. If you see it going CLOCKWISE you are seeing the image with RIGHT side of your brain. Unfortunately, most of us, see the image going COUNTER-CLOCKWISE, which means that we would be using mostly our LEFT side. Here is a list of things that each side of the brain does:
| LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS uses logic detail oriented facts rule words and language present and past math and science can comprehend knowing acknowledges order/pattern perception knows object name reality based forms strategies practical safe |
RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS uses feeling “big picture” oriented imagination rules symbols and images present and future philosophy & religion can “get it” (i.e. meaning) believes appreciates spatial perception knows object function fantasy based presents possibilities impetuous risk taking |
Now, take a look at the picture and make note of which way it is turning. Ok, got it? Now, try and make the image go the opposite way. Concentrate, it can be done. If you need a hint, try just blinking your eyes to get a “fresh” look at the image. Be aware that this might take up a good part of your day if you only see it going one way. Give it a day and come back to see if you can get it to turn around. Show your friends, this is legit and will most likely freak them out just a bit. Ohhhhhh… that was so cool when I finally figured out how to see her going counter clockwise. At first I was positive she couldn’t possibly be going anything but clockwise. Thanks for making me use the left side of my brain for a few minutes!!!

Yea when I first saw this it only went clockwise, but then I watched it the next morning and I could almost get it to turn at will. Pretty neat little trick of the mind.
